There is one blessing from Covid. I sat still long enough.
In the fall of 2020, I tested positive for Covid. I was out of commission for about 4 weeks and didn't have the energy for a few more weeks after. TV was boring, I couldn't concentrate to read books, so I started watching YouTube. A video popped up instructing how to crochet an afghan. Hmmm.

I watched intently. And again. Hmmm. This seems possible. Maybe I can do this. Hmmmm. I found some yarn and a hook (those previous attempts!). If I could do a sample, even with different yarn and hook, maybe I could do this! An hour later, I had an order placed with Michaels for the Caron's Sprinkle Cake yarn and the hook. I anxiously awaited that delivery!I think there was doubt by my husband about this new project. However, this new project served two purposes. 1) I'm learning to crochet! 2) I was fiber deprived and needed a fix. Due to various circumstances, I had not been quilting for several years. The desire to be creative and work with fabric was overwhelming. Crochet was something that would temporarily meet that need.
My husband became envious. Do you want a blanket, dear? Steelers' colors? By then I was able to get out and about. So I needed a field trip to Hobby Lobby. Steelers colors it was. I had progressed more than I had in knitting. I was changing colors! LOL However, lesson learned. The more you change colors, the more ends you get to weave in. (Note: each color group is one skein....lots of skeins!)
Thirty years later, I CAN CROCHET!!! I was ready to tackle projects galore.
My fingers flew! My brain understood! I had a nice warm blanket. Did I mention that this was in November and kind of chilly!

But alas, that beginning with a long chain process was still beyond my grasp. What to do?
Lessons learned:
- Crochet is possible!
- YouTube has wonderful tutorials. Find the creators that speak to you and subscribe to their channels. Follow them on other social media also.
- Take pictures of your work: in progress and complete.
- I don't like weaving in ends. LOL
- Variegated yarns are wonderful.
