I've done two variations of C2C and the granny rectangle blanket. But I want to do something different. That's one of the wonders of crochet. All the variety. But so much seems to depend on starting with a chain. *sigh*
So it's getting cooler. I wonder if there is a hat that I could make that doesn't start with a chain.
By now, I've watched so many videos and joined various crochet groups on FaceBook. So much inspiration. And so much dismay because most start with chains. *sigh*
One day I came upon this video. It starts with a circle at the top and works its way to the bottom rim of the hat.
Maybe, just maybe, I can do this.
So what size is my head? Will this video instruction work for my head? Apparently not. BUT the instructor gave a wonderful piece of information. How to increase the size by stitch multiples needed. I was happy. Another field trip to Hobby Lobby.
Can I just say, I am sooooo thankful for Hobby Lobby. Being a crafter in a small town and 2 hours away from larger towns, it's nice to have a craft store where I can go to touch, feel, look, compare, and get inspired. Even though there is online, nothing can replace the real thing.
Found a beautiful skein and off to watch and pause a video. That is one of the great things about YouTube instructional videos. Pause. Rewind. Save to a List for reference later. All have come in handy. And let's not forget those suggested videos. What wonderful rabbit trails!
Learned some new stitches. Learned I really really need to pay attention to each crochet stitch.
But I was so pleased with the results.
Lessons learned:
- Variegated yarns are wonderful....color, more color!
- I'm not that crazy about the style of hook I used in this project. I bought it because the size I needed was not available in the style hook I like when I was "desparate" (aka impatient) to make this hat.
- A new stitch.
- How to modify a pattern based on multiples.
