Crochet: I'm loving to C2C! Ribbit, Ribbit!

Okay, I liked the block-y C2C, but as usual I wanted to try something different.   But again, what to do that doesn't start with a chain.

So while waiting for that extra skein of yarn, I found a video tutorial for a new project.

I just have to say I have fallen in love with Lauren's Daisy Cottage Designs tutorials and patterns.  I recommend subscribing to her YouTube Channel and check out her blog:  https://daisycottagedesigns.net.

Something I had learned when using or crocheting blankets:  I don't like toe-catchers.  Blankets that have holes that catch my toes.   So as I looked at tutorials, I was paying attention to "toe-catcher" potential.

C2C again.  But using the moss stitch.  I had already found a beautiful variegated yarn.  So crocheting I began.

I decided I wanted this to be a good "nap on the couch" blanket.  So it needed to be long enough and wide enough to snuggle with and keep warm.

The blanket began to grow....and grow.

Now this is a long-term project.  I began it as I was recovering from wrist surgery.  So I didn't not crochet for long periods of time.  Also the blanket was too warm on me during the summer time to work on.

To make it a longer long term project, I was getting about half way through section 2 of the rectangle when I noticed that my edges were really wonky.  It definitely was not going to end of up as a rectangle.  So I went back to the video.  Ugh.  I was not decreasing correctly.  Thus the wonkiness.  I didn't like the wonky and it would not look good finished.

I was going to have to frog a lot.  Frogging is another term for ripping it out.  Rip it, Rip it...sounds like ribbit, ribbit.  Frogging.  A LOT.  Enough that I purchased a yarn winder to save my wrist.  I frogged about 100 rows 48" wide.  Sad. Crying Sad.

BUT I am so glad I did.  The blanket is looking beautiful.  I have about 100 rows to go to finish to the corner.  But the blanket has been on hold due to warm weather.  The weather is changing so I'm about ready to pick it up again.  So close to being done.

Not the best photo angle to show that it really has
90-degree corners.  LOL  But my shoe gives you a perspective
of the size.   Lots of crochet stiches.

I'll post an update on this same post when it is complete.

Lessons learned:

  • Stitch markers are helpful and critical.
  • Again, variegated yarn is beautiful .
  • Check your instructions twice, and again and again.
  • Frogging.  Ribbit, Ribbit.  Rip it out.   If you don't like the way it looks, rip it out and redo.
  • When frogging a large section, a yarn winder comes in handy.
  • Crocheting a blanket that covers you as you crochet is best done in colder months.
  • There are no toe-catchers in this pattern.
